  2. Why focus on recycling and garbage control to cut extreme poverty situation?

Because this is the most important issues of our time. Wastage contributes to inefficient use of products; it also contributes to pollution and garbage pile-ups and finally environmental degradation. Many families herein the cities actually have more than enough resources for every women, man and child to live decently. Remember all those clothes, books, and other materials things you have gathered in your home? They only take up space and they do nothing but sit here and is non productive. It is true that everything in life has a "Birth to death" life span. Your old pair of shoes which is meant to last from 7 years to 10 years is being either stashed away in your house or is thrown as garbage, and you do it in 2 year that product which has used up so much material, time recourses still can be used by some one for the next 6 to 9 years. Why not give it away, or even sell at a fair price? Some of our Nepalese families would welcome them and would save them hard earned money.

  3. Why focus on extreme poverty?

Because this is another of one of the most important issues of our time. Our human family actually has more than enough resources for every woman, man and child to live decently. Yet an astounding 90% of us make less than US$ 1 a day, nearly 20 million people in Nepal cannot read and write, and 85% lack access to sanitation. This contrasting situation makes acting on extreme poverty a moral imperative. Where there is poverty, there is erosion of human rights, environmental health deteriorates, the burden of over population becomes heavier, and human dignity suffers. Because poverty is also closely linked to many other problems, we as a Nepalese Society bear the responsibility to put our ingenuity, technology, and hearts to work in breaking its cycle. We begin breaking this cycle asserting that poverty does not have to continue from generation to generation, and by creating new opportunities in which even the poorest thrive and overcome entrenched conditions. Every time a person or family or community breaks the cycle of poverty of positive change takes place in a village, city, country and region-the whole world. This is how social change happens.

  5. When and how did OnlyAtNepal start?

The seeds for OnlyAtNepal were planted in the ground of a powerful vision; that the people living in Nepal or visiting it can use the internet to change the way people in Nepal can connect with one another and take effective action to reduce the cycle of extreme poverty. We began by believing that there was another way out of our pressing present deadlock. We also believed that there must be a simple way to help others and ourselves in achieving this with out the red tape jungle of the government processing system. As we looked around our own lives, we saw that there was so much that we had outgrown and do not need cluttering up our living space. Putting the same formula together and asking people we met, we discovered that this was a common situation for many in the capital and elsewhere.

Why not recycle and pass down the things we don't need to someone else who does not have the resources to acquire these essentials. Then we realize this would reduce garbage accumulation by more than 60%.
